VALPARAISO | Valparaiso police said four young men armed with weapons, including hammers, drove to a house in Valparaiso and attacked a man with whom they were angry, along with the man's friend.
The alleged attack occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Friday in the area of Chicago and Madison streets.
Arrested on battery charges were Kenneth Goodwin, 21, of Valparaiso; Nicholas Goodwin, 19, of Valparaiso; Dimitrius Schirato, 20, of Valparaiso; and Dominique Bray, 19, who has addresses in Valparaiso and Plainfield, Ill.
Police said the victims are a 26-year-old man who lives on Chicago Street and a 20-year-old man who lives on Madison Street.
Police said Kenneth Goodwin and the older victim got into an argument over the telephone because Kenneth Goodwin thought the older victim stole something from him. A short time later, Kenneth Goodwin and the other suspects pulled up in a car.
Police said Kenneth Goodwin repeatedly struck the older victim with an object. That victim then was kicked in the head several times by Schirato, police said.
While the older victim was being attacked, the younger victim was attacked by Nicholas Goodwin, Schirato and Bray, police said. Police said the younger victim repeatedly was struck with a hammer.
Police said a woman tried to stop the attack against the younger victim, and her dog followed her and ended up getting struck with the weapons.
Police said it wasn't immediately known if the dog was injured. The two men who were struck were taken to Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus for treatment.
Police said the attack ended when a neighbor yelled for them to stop. Police said the suspects fled the scene but were located.
