College fair
The Portage Township YMCA will host a college fair from 5 tao 7 p.m. Feb. 22. The fair is free and open to the public. The fair will allow applicants to learn about admission requirements, financial aid, college majors, college entrance exam testing and life on campus. Meet the representatives from Indiana Wesleyan University, Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana University Northwest, Purdue University Calumet, Purdue University North Central, Calumet College of St. Joseph, Valparaiso University and University of Phoenix.
Dodgeball.
Register through Feb. 19 for the first adult dodgeball league. It runs Feb. 23 through march 30 for ages 14 and older.
Basketball
The Portage Township YMCA is accepting registration for a 3-year-old basketball league which will begin Feb. 27 and run through April 13. Register by Feb. 22. All games will be played at 11 a.m. Saturdays. They will begin with a 20-minute practice and follow up with a game.

YMCA spin-a-thon
The second annual spin-a-thon is 8 to 11 a.m. Feb. 20. Participants will collect pledges to support wellness programs for all ages. The person with the highest amount of pledges will win a LeMond spin bike. Pledges must be turned in the morning of the event.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
The Valparaiso Family YMCA now provides Vinyasa Flow Yoga from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Saturdays and 4 to 5:15 p.m. Sundays. The instructor teaches participants how to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. Registration is required and can be done at www.valpoymca.org or at the YMCA Courtesy Desk.
Fitness testing
Ultimate Testing Lab will be at the Valparaiso Family YMCA to do fitness testing from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 1. Tests include: Hydrostatic Body Composition (measures body fat and lean body tissues); VO2 Max/Sub-Max (measures oxygen consumption and calorie burn rate); and, Resting Metabolic Rate (measures calorie burn at rest). This fitness testing is available to everyone in the community. Registration is required by Feb. 24 and can be done at www.valpoymca.org or at the YMCA Courtesy Desk.
Volunteers needed
The YMCA's annual Ringing in Spring 5K Run/Walk, scheduled to take place on April 3. relies on its numerous volunteers in order to run smoothly. To volunteer, call Ruth Cavanaugh at (219) 462-4185, ext. 234.or rcavanaugh@valpoymca.org. Register to volunteer by March 13, and you will receive a Ringing in Spring T-shirt. Refreshments will be available the day of the race.
