Bike to work

Pictured at the Valpo Velocity launch ride is, from left, City Administrator Bill Oeding, Urschel CEO Rick Urschel and Valparaiso University President Mark Heckler. People are encouraged to post their bike to work on Valparaiso Pathways Facebook page.

The Valpo Parks and Valparaiso Pathways Committee invites community members to celebrate National Bike to Work Week by pedaling to work this week. Community members are also invited to a Bike to Work event from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at Central Park Plaza in downtown Valparaiso. The event will include a free bicycle check by Leo’s Mobile Bicycle Service, the opportunity to test ride a Valpo Velocity bikeshare bicycle, the chance to win prizes and refreshments.

The Valpo Parks provides more than 18 miles of maintained pathways for an easy, local commute. The Valpo Parks encourages residents to show their support of the national event by posting their ride-to-work photos, mileage and bike-friendly businesses on the Valparaiso Pathways Facebook page. Maps and plans for local and regional pathways can be found at www.ValpoParks.org or www.nirpc.org. Call 219-462-5144.
