CHESTERTON

FRIDAY

Theft. The owner of Yesterday's Treasures, 700 Broadway, reported several hundred dollars worth of jewelry stolen from a display case rented to Alice Jacobs, of Niles, Ill.

SATURDAY

Burglary. Duneland Resale Shop, 801 Broadway, reported someone broke into the business and stole a camera and about $100 to $200 collected for Haiti relief sponsored by the group Kids Alive.

Theft. Abbey Lane resident Nathaniel Radtke reported the theft of a $900 moped that had been chained to a post.

Theft. Porter resident Patrick Moss reported his son's $300 bicycle stolen from the bike rack at Broadway and Third Street.

SUNDAY

Vandalism. Carey Lane resident John Smith reported someone broke his glass top outdoor table. The damage is $150.

MONDAY

Theft. Chestnut Boulevard resident Nicolo Lovinello reported the theft of his son's $50 Razor scooter from in front of his home.

 

PORTAGE

SATURDAY

Vehicle theft. Cortie Wilson Jr., of the 3000 block of Alexis, reported the theft of a silver 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche worth $20,000. The truck contained golfing equipment.

Arrest. Tristan Ferguson, 21, of 2864 Blake, Portage, was arrested on a public intoxication charge after police said he was found lying on a swing in the backyard of a home in the 2400 block of Willowcreek Road. Police said he had been drinking at the Nativity Festival and then went to Mark O's Bar & Grill, which is near where he was found.

Theft. Portage resident Lora Chessor reported the theft of a $359 gearshift and $185 Coach sunglasses stolen from her Porsche convertible, possibly while it was parked outside a store.

MONDAY

Arrests. Anthony Joseph, 22, of Portage, was arrested on charges of drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident and false informing after police said he crashed and knocked over a utility pole at Stone Avenue and Anderson Street at 8 p.m., then struck a mailbox on Harmony Street. Police said he and a passenger, Carl Hipelius, 22, of Portage, lied about the incident. Hipelius was arrested on a false informing charge.

TUESDAY

Vehicle theft. Portage resident Jeremy Beamon reported a $350 camera stolen from his truck on Second Street. Police said they discovered the theft while investigating a report of a person attempting to break into vehicles.

 

PORTER TOWNSHIP

FRIDAY

Theft. West County Road 275 South resident Craig Klauer reported a ladder, a chain saw and four lights stolen from his truck. The loss is $1,150.

 

UNION TOWNSHIP

FRIDAY

Vandalism. Sunshine Drive resident Traci Schmal-Nurse reported someone put a wick into the gas tank of her 2008 Dodge Charger and lit it on fire. The damage is estimated at $5,000.

 

VALPARAISO

SATURDAY

Vandalism. The Wave restaurant, 3304 Calumet Ave., reported someone used a yard light to shatter the exit door to the patio. The damage is $420.

MONDAY

Vandalism. Beech Street resident Patricia Shaffer reported someone threw a rock through her vehicle window, causing $700 damage.

 

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP

FRIDAY

Arrest. Andrew Schmicker, 31, of 82 N. County Road 400 East, was arrested on a battery charge after he was accused of battering his wife in the presence of her children. The woman told police that Schmicker had been drinking all evening, became angry when she forgot to bought his tobacco, and battered her.
