With much interest in the sport of volleyball after two clinics were offered, Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s Duneland Club implemented a new volleyball league for club members this fall season. With teams named after players’ favorite college teams, Team Purdue and Team Maryland were invited to play during the intermission of Valparaiso University’s volleyball game against Evansville last month.
“Our club members truly embraced volleyball, especially our girls," said Ron Ranta, club director for Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s Duneland Club. "Two of our girls’ league teams were very excited about their invitation to play during Valparaiso University’s volleyball game intermission. This was a very eye-opening experience for our club members on the level of play needed for college, as well as a wonderful opportunity to expose our kids to a fantastic university in their own backyard. We hope to provide this opportunity again as our volleyball league grows."
