GARY | A Portage woman received injuries to her face early Saturday when she reportedly drove her car off a Cline Avenue ramp and hit a bridge abutment.
Lauren Kinney, 31, was on the ramp from eastbound Interstate 80 to northbound Cline about 2:30 a.m. when her vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet Blazer, went off the road, Indiana State Police said. It traveled through a grassy area before striking the overpass abutment.
Kinney had to be extricated from the car by Gary firefighters and was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary. Police said tests showed Kinney had a blood alcohol content of 0.26, more than three times the legal limit.
Kinney was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction. The Lake County Sheriff's Department also assisted at the scene.
