PORTER TOWNSHIP | Lakes of the Four Seasons security pulled an intoxicated man from his burning pickup truck just minutes before it was destroyed by flames Friday night at Sandy Beach Drive and Forest Lane.

Porter County police arrested the rescued man, Tyler Nuzum, 29, of Kansas City, Mo., on a public intoxication charge.

A witness told police he and a friend were sitting on a dock when a pickup truck pulled up and stopped. The witness told police the driver sat with the vehicle in park and revved the engine for about 20 minutes.

About 11 p.m. Friday -- after 20 minutes of engine revving -- smoke started coming from the truck. The witness told police he ran over to the vehicle, and by that time smoke was billowing from it.

The witness told police he tried to remove the driver, but the driver wouldn't let him. LOFS security arrived and pulled Nuzum out.

A LOFS security officer told police Nuzum, after being rescued, stated his kids were in the truck. LOFS security checked the vehicle, but didn't find anyone else inside or around the truck.

Police said Nuzum stated he stopped at the beach and didn't know what happened after that. Police said Nuzum's truck, a 2010 Dodge Ram worth $35,000, was destroyed by the fire.
