BURNS HARBOR | A Portage man was airlifted Monday afternoon following a crash on U.S. 12 between Oak Hill and Allegius roads.
According to Porter police Lt. John Lane, Jeffrey Williams, 22, of Portage was eastbound on U.S. 12 around 12:14 p.m. Monday when he turned in front of a westbound semi tractor trailer.
Lane said it is unknown why Williams made the left turn into the path of the semi.
Williams, who was driving a silver 2000 Nissan, was airlifted by UCAN from the accident scene to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., with lacerations and a partially collapsed lung.
Williams was listed in fair condition Tuesday morning.
The 2013 Mack semi, loaded with Gypsum, was driven by Roger Fox, 71, of Hebron. Fox received minor lacerations on his hand, but was not transported.
There were no indications of impairment and nothing appeared out of order with the tractor trailer, Lane said.
