VALPARAISO | A 33-year-old Chesterton man faces two Class-A felony counts of child molesting on allegations of having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Mikkal Valent, of 418 S. 4th St., was taken into custody and given a bond of $25,000 cash and $15,000 surety, according to the sheriff's department.
The alleged acts were reported by the father of the young girl, who said he discovered a March 1 calendar entry in his daughter's phone declaring she had starting dating Valent, according to charging information.
"I love him sooo much," the girl wrote, including a photograph of the two sitting together.
The girl told police she met Valent through a friend and spent time chatting online with him before he picked the two girls up from school Feb. 28 and took them to the mall, police said. They then went to the friend's house where Valent is accused of having sex with the purported victim.
The girl told police Valent sent a text message from her phone to her boyfriend stating that she was his, police said. She also told police she found evidence on Valent's cell phone that he had been watching child pornography.
The girl's friend reportedly told police she saw Valent laying on top of the purported victim kissing her.
Valent denied ever being alone with the girl or having any sexual contact with her, according to charging information. He reportedly told officers about his failed marriage and pristine military record.
Police said they took items from Valent for investigation, including his cell phone.
