A Chesterton man crashed his vehicle early Saturday and died as a result of some type of medical emergency, according to Indiana State Police.
A preliminary investigation by Sgt. Dwayne Dillahunty revealed that at approximately 1:45 a.m. Saturday a 1998 Toyota Camry, driven by Timothy Knight, 54, of Chesterton, was eastbound on Interstate 80/94 just west of Calumet Avenue in Lake County when he suddenly veered right and went across several lanes of traffic.
The Camry hit the outer barrier concrete wall and came to rest in the deceleration lane that goes to the Calumet Avenue exit ramps.
Knight was unconscious and not breathing after the crash. He was pronounced dead at Munster Community Hospital. He is believed to have had some type of medical emergency prior to the crash. An autopsy is scheduled.
