CHESTERTON | Jennifer Martin will be starting children's art classes at the Chesterton Art Center on Sept. 3 and will run through the end of the school year. The goal is to introduce children to various artists, their styles and techniques, with projects reflecting what they are learning. Classes meet weekly and are open to all ages and skill levels. Several mediums will be used including drawing, painting, papier mache, mosaic, sculpture, collage and more.
The schedule of classes is as follows:
1-2 p.m. Mondays, Preschool 4-5 year-olds
3:30-5 p.m. Mondays, Novice 6-9 year-olds
1-2 p.m.Tuesdays, Preschool 3-4 year-olds
3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Novice 5-7 year-olds
3:30-5 p.m. Wednesdays, Intermediate 6-11 year-olds
3:30-5 p.m. Thursdays, Advanced 7-10 year-olds
5:15-6:45 p.m. Thursdays, Novice 9-14 year-olds
7-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Advanced 11-16 year-olds
September classes will begin with "Paul Cezanne and the Astonishing Apple." During the month, students will take a look at Cezanne's work. They will draw and paint red, green and yellow apples, while learning how to set up a still life. By the end of the month, children will have a painting on a stretched canvas to take home.
Tuition is $75 per month for after school students and $60 for preschool students. Supplies are included. There is a $5 a month discount for members of the Chesterton Art Center. To register, call the Chesterton Art Center at (219) 926-4711. The Chesterton Art Center is located at 115 S. 4th St.
