CHESTERTON | Geof Benson has been named executive director of the Dunes Learning Center, the group announced Tuesday.
The Dunes Learning Center is a nonprofit, residential environmental education facility operating in partnership with the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The programs at the center serve students from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Benson is the immediate past chairman of the Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission and serves as chairman of the NIRPC Environmental Management Policy Committee. He is president of the Beverly Shores Town Council, vice-chairman of the Lake Michigan Marina and Shoreline Development Commission and co-chairman of the Environmental Committee of the National Association of Regional Councils.
Benson held past positions with Save the Dunes and the Child Care Consortium.
He is the president of Geof Benson Music and holds a bachelor of music degree in theory and composition from Webster University.
Benson also assists Chesterton High School as a licensed soccer coach.
