Building blocks of the future: NAWIC holds construction contest for kids
Northwest Indiana Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) hosted a block building event at Liberty Elementary School. Each student was able to pick out 100 blocks, a piece of string, a rock and a piece of aluminum foil and were asked to construct a architectural piece to be judged by several local construction entities. This program was developed by NAWIC in an effort to create an awareness of and to promote an interest in one of the many facets of the construction industry. Pictured are the winners of the event, left to right, Grand Prize winner-Matthew Shaffer (grade 4), Jackson Elem.; and first and second place grade category winners Samuel Manzke (1), South Haven Christian; Mark Jewison (3), Brummitt Elem.; Katelynn Asbury (1) and Justin Brock (3), both of Liberty Elem.
