CHESTERTON | During Monday night’s town council meeting, council member James Ton thanked the town’s engineering department for completing required ADA compliance over the course of the past year.
“We didn’t have to contract it out and were able to do it in house and save the town a lot of money," Ton said. "Not doing this report has severe consequences. We could jeopardize federal funds if it had not been done, so thanks to the engineering department for their efficiency.”
The council then adopted a resolution to accept the ADA transition plan.
The council also approved a resolution to move surplus funds in the amount of $44,950 from the cumulative capital improvement fund to the general fund, as well as a separate resolution to move surplus funds in the amount of $30,290 from the levy fund to the general fund.
In other business, Street Commissioner John Schadenberg asked that a 50 cents an hour increase in pay be included in next year’s salary ordinance to cover the training for four street department staff on the town’s Aquatech truck.
Schnadenberg said the truck, which the town bought for $295,000 in October, requires specialized expertise and responsibility to operate, due to the truck’s many valves and gauges.
The truck is used for jetting and cleaning storm sewers and helps with storm water compliance.
Council President Nick Walding reported that the year’s final CEDIT meeting was held prior to the council meeting and he asked that departments submit outstanding bills for such funds by Wednesday. He also noted that any further spending for 2012 was frozen.
“We’re going to work to prepare itemizing details for CEDIT requests for 2013 and ask departments to submit their request in more detail,” said Walding.
