Taking over the reins of the meeting after her nomination and subsequent election as president was Sharon Darnell with Jeff Trout, who was absent, named vice president.
Stephanie Kuziela, the town’s clerk-treasurer who was recently elected by Republican Party precinct committeemen after the retirement of Gayle Polakowski, also stepped into her new role.
The council appointed Jeff Ton to the Plan Commission; Alex Rodriguez to the Police Commission; Andrew Michel to the Utility Service Board for a two-year term; Bruce Mathias to the Storm Water Management Board; Rick Hokanson, Phoebe Jane-House and Joe Ackerman to the Tax Abatement Committee; and Paul Tharp and Darnell to the Redevelopment Commission.
Receiving presidential appointments were Mark Dickinson to the Parks and Recreation Board; Rodney Corder to the Board of Zoning Appeals; James Raffin to the Utility Service Board for a three-year term; and Ton, Trout and Edward Shoenfelt to the Redevelopment Commission.
Attorney Chuck Lukmann said the Porter County Council, which makes one of the appointments to the Chesterton Economic Development Commission, had make the recommendation to reappoint Lloyd Kittredge and the council ratified that appointment.
Serving as council liaisons to the town’s departments, with no changes from last year, are Nick Walding to the street department, Emerson DeLaney to the Police and Fire departments, Darnell to the utility and park departments, and Trout to the building and engineering departments.
Ton will be liaison again to the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission.
“I think he’s the best effort we’ve had there to date,” Darnell said.
DeLaney responded, “I wholeheartedly agree.”
Ton announced he would be serving on the NIRPC executive board as treasurer for 2014.
