CHESTERTON | Northwest Indiana’s improv comedy group is offering an eight-week beginner improvisation workshop for adults beginning Mar. 6.
Improv 101 will meet at the Tech Center, 1 Center St. in Valparaiso on Sunday afternoons from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. though May 4 with a student performance following the last class.
“Improv teaches skills that are valuable for any career. It helps people become more confident in front of groups and how to think on their feet and develop a more humorous outlook on life, “said Bob Craig, the director of Disposable Theatre and instructor for the class.”
Improvisation is not just for budding comedians and actors, many top business schools in the U.S. including Duke University, MIT’s Sloan School of Management, UCLA and Stanford include improvisation as a class in their MBA programs.
“Improv teaches you how to think on your feet and quickly react to unexpected events and things you’re not prepared for,” Craig said.
No experience is necessary for Improv 101. The workshops will cover the basics of improvisation; creating scenes, building your understanding of improvisation, performance games and stimulating your creativity.
Advanced games classes are also offered for those who have completed the beginning class and there may be performance opportunities with Disposable Theatre at or above that level.
Tuition for the workshop is $100 and space is limited to a minimum of eight and a maximum of 12 students. This class is for adults (17 and up) only please.
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for information on how to reserve your spot in the class or to ask any questions regarding the class.
The workshops will be taught by Bob Craig. He has been teaching, studying and performing improv for more than 20 years. He has studied at The Second City Conservatory program and at IO (formerly ImprovOlympic) and performed with Broad Shoulders Productions and TheatreSports in Chicago. Craig is the director and founder of Disposable Theatre that is in its fourth year of performing around Northwest Indiana.
