The Duneland Family YMCA is offering before- and after-school programs to school age children throughout the Duneland School Corp. area to help motivate and inspire kids to learn. The Y’s before- and after-school program combines academics with play and offers a caring and safe environment for youths who would otherwise be left unsupervised.
“The combination of enrichment and extended learning opportunities is essential to increasing children’s success in and out of school,” said Jessica Macius, childcare coordinator for Duneland Family YMCA. “YMCA after-school programs promote a love for learning, social and emotional development, healthy choices, character and creativity, and provide children with an extra support system through positive role models to help them achieve and reach their full potential.”
Studies show participation in before- and after- school programs helps boost school attendance and academic performance and reduces gaps in academic achievement among children from disadvantaged households.
In the Duneland Family YMCA’s after-school program, time is set aside each day for homework. Students can also do crafts, gym activities, creative play with games, Legos, toys etc. and have snack time. Before-school care students receive breakfast and prepare for the school day. Financial assistance is available to ensure every child and teen has the opportunity to learn and grow at the Y.
Before- and after-school programming is available in all five Duneland elementary schools. To enroll in the Y's school age childcare programs, or for more information, contact Jessica Macius at (219) 921-0183 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
