CHESTERTON | The Duneland Family YMCA held an open house Thursday to highlight programs designed for seniors that are planned for 2013.
The open house celebrated the launch of a Senior Center that is free to the public. The center will be open Mondays through Fridays. Coffee, activities and games will be provided; however, participants are encouraged to make program suggestions.
The Duneland Y also has begun offering the Healthways Silver Sneakers Fitness Program for adults 65 and older and others who are Medicare-eligible. Participants will receive a membership to the Y subsidized through this program.
In conjunction with the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program, a Silver Sneakers Muscular Strength and Range of Motion class will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the fitness room. This class is complimentary with a membership. If a participant is not a member, the cost will be $2 per class. This class is designed to increase strength, range of motion, agility, balance and coordination, and improve participants' functional capacities, physical fitness level and sense of well being.
