Chesterton High School senior Emily Dyrek won a $500 art scholarship from the Association of Artists and Craftsman of Porter County to be used toward her art education at Indiana University Northwest.
She will pursue an undergraduate degree in either 3-D animation or in illustration, leading to a graduate degree in animation at a major art school in Chicago. Her goal is to work in the movie industry, bringing characters to life to entertain others.
"Art is not just a hobby, it is a passion. It is what gets my heartbeat increasing and my imagination going wild. It is such an amazing thing to be able to take something that you have imagined in your head, and put it down on paper for the whole world to see," she said.
Each year, the AACPC invites Porter County high school seniors to apply for this scholarship. The award is given to a student pursuing a degree in an art-related field.
To apply, seniors much submit a letter of intent, sketchbooks, and a portfolio of their work. The AACPC is connected to the Chesterton Art Center, located at 115 S. 4th St., Chesterton, IN 46304. To see a full list of events and classes held at the Art Center, visit www.chestertonart.com.
