CHESTERTON | Westchester Public Library’s free concert and family film series continues at 7 p.m. Friday at the Thomas Centennial Park bandstand with the Western Rangers playing cowboy and western music.
The concert will be followed by the film "Happy Feet 2" at dusk, about 8.
Bring lawn chairs and picnics, blankets and bug spray.
In the event of rain, the events will be offered in the Library Service Center on the corner of Indiana Avenue and Calumet.
Popcorn and soda will be sold in time for the movie by members of the Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club.
The Western Rangers, consisting of Mary Minton, Susan Brown and John Burnett, are dedicated to preserving and performing traditional cowboy music. Burnett learned many of the songs from his father while growing up in Texas and Arkansas, while Brown and Minton’s families shared traditional cowboy songs during their childhoods.
The next concert will be July 19, with Song Sisters performing folk music. The film that night will be "Stuart Little 3," rated G.
