CHESTERTON | The Duneland Family YMCA has partnered with the Chesterton Fire Department and Porter Regional Hospital to offer a free car seat fitting clinic on June 26 and 27.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA); "Car crashes are a leading killer of children 1 to 12 years old in the United States. The best way to protect them in the car is to put them in the right seat, at the right time, and use it the right way."
"We at Chesterton Fire have four nationally certified technicians to check child restraint seats, we learned in our training that up to 90 percent of all child restraint seats are in one way or another installed improperly," said John Jarka, Chesterton Fireman.
This free car seat fitting clinic is organized to educate participants on which seat is right for their child and how to use the seat safely. The clinic is scheduled for 8 to 10:30 a.m. June 26 at the Duneland Y and 7 to 8 a.m. June 27 at the Y's child care facility located within Chesterton Middle School Entrance No. 8.
The Duneland Family YMCA is located at 215 Roosevelt St. Call (219) 926-4204 with any questions.
