Indiana University a capella group to perform at Chesterton High School
CHESTERTON | Indiana University's popular a capella group Straight No Chaser will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Chesterton High School auditorium along with support from a local administrator of Chesterton's choir program.
The performance is in conjunction with the Duneland Performing Arts Series, which was set up to provide concerts and performances to members of the community and surrounding areas.
"The proceeds from these events help support the choir program at CHS," said Kristin Morris, choral director at Chesterton High School.
Straight No Chaser was founded at IU in 1996 and performs nationwide. The group has recorded an EP on Atlantic Records.
"IU's Straight No Chaser has participated in the Duneland Performing Arts Series in the past and they were highly popular, so we thought we would offer the opportunity for them to present another concert here in Chesterton," Morris said.
The night also will include The Puffins, a band from Chicago that features Alex Hall, who choreographs for the CHS Show Choirs. Hall is from Waterloo, Ind., where he was a student at DeKalb High School and a member of the show choir Classic Connection.
"We believe that music and the arts are important to be exposed to and hope to provide opportunities for people to have access to outstanding performance events," Morris said.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be bought online at www.chestertonchoirs.org/dpas, in the CHS Main Office and at the Red Cup Cafe in downtown Chesterton.
Chesterton High School Choirs comprise Concert Choir, Camerata Choir, Drifters Show Choir and Sandpipers Show Choir.
