CHESTERTON | Richard Castleton of Burke Costanza & Carberry LLP will present “Top Ten Problems Employers Face” during the Duneland Chamber of Commerce’s free Sunrise Seminar on Thursday, March 6.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Riley’s Railhouse – an historic bed and breakfast located in the heart of downtown Chesterton at 123 4th Street. The public is invited to attend this free informational seminar, which will include a continental breakfast and networking opportunities.
Castleton is an Indiana attorney with a national labor and employment practice. Along with transactional and litigation matters, he has experience defending businesses in wage and hour investigations and litigation as well as in fair employment investigations and litigation. He counsels businesses in both federal and state employment law matters, and is a former U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Investigator. Castleton regularly presents on employment law matters. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a juris doctor and masters of International Commerce & Policy Degree from Valparaiso University.
During the Chamber’s March 6 Sunrise Seminar, Castleton will share his experiences and expertise on a range of employment issues, including his “Top Ten Tips” for how employers should hire, fire and maintain employment relationships within the letter and spirit of the law.
“A significant majority of business owners don’t know what the law says,” said Castleton. “It’s difficult to take advantage of what the law offers you – and avoid circumstances that could land you in trouble – if you aren’t aware of your own rights and the rights of your employees.”
For business owners who may feel overwhelmed at overhauling inadequate systems that have been in place for years, Castleton offered the following encouragement: “Just because you haven’t done something right in the past doesn’t mean that you can’t start now. Putting forth a good-faith effort for compliance can’t be overstated if an issue does arise.”
