PORTER | A photo of sandhill cranes ruling a roadway and a photo of paddle boarding at sunset took the top honors in Indiana Dunes Tourism’s Beyond the Beach Discovery Trail photo contest.
Tracy Grace, of DeMotte, was the first place winner in this year's photo contest. Grace shot the photo, titled "Sandhill Cranes Rule the Road," while en route to see the migrating cranes. Grace's prize was tickets to the Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso and an overnight stay at her choice of accommodations in Indiana Dunes Country.
Olivia Steele, of West Lafayette, won second place for the photo titled "Reflections of Another World." In describing the photo, Steele wrote, "Paddle boarding at sunset is a magical experience. Riding so high above the water, especially on such a flat night, showed colors and patterns reflecting off the water that I missed while standing on shore.” Steele won an Indiana Dunes State Park pass and a Lucrezia restaurant gift card.
The contest was designed to capture the beauty and adventures that can be found in the Indiana Dunes and the many great sites beyond the beach.
People were encouraged to share their outdoor adventures along the Beyond the Beach Discovery Trail. The trail, which can be found at www.BeyondTheBeachDiscoveryTrail.com, features 60 natural, historical and cultural sites throughout Northwest Indiana.
“We sponsored the contest to encourage people to explore the sites along the Beyond the Beach Discovery Trail and to share the splendor of the sites through photography,” said Christine Livingston, Indiana Dunes Tourism assistant director.
“We were amazed by the beauty that was captured by so many of the people who entered the contest.”
The photographs are being used for Indiana Dunes Tourism promotions and are being shared through social media.
