CHESTERTON | A Chesterton man was arrested Friday night after police said he struck another vehicle then drove home.
Gregory Trowbridge Jr., 34, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
Chesterton police were called about 11:30 p.m. Friday to a home in the 900 block of South 18th Street. The homeowner told officers his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway was struck by a mid-size red truck or SUV. Police said the vehicle was hit so hard it was moved about 3 feet from the driveway onto the grass.
According to police reports, officers located a red Jeep SUV in a driveway in the 800 block of South 19th Street. Police said the Jeep had damage consistent with the earlier hit-and-run crash and paint transfer that matched the other vehicle.
Police said the registered owner of the vehicle told officers his stepson, Trowbridge, had just returned home after using the SUV.
Police went into the owner's home and woke Trowbridge. According to the police report, Trowbridge said he "didn't realize there was that much damage," and that he was the only person in the car.
Trowbridge was taken into custody and declined to make any further statements.
