Indiana State Police spent hours clearing a Tuesday wreck on the exit ramp from Interstate 94 to southbound Ind. 49, officials said.
A semitrailer rolled over around 2 p.m while coming around the Chesterton ramp to the highway, according to an ISP news release.
The load of 45,000 pounds of metal shavings were not secure inside the box of the truck and toppled the semitrailer over, police said.
The ramp was shut down and closed throughout rush hour.
The driver of the truck, Thomas E. Poling, 47, of Fairborn, Ohio, was ticketed for speed too fast to avoid a collision, a violation for an unsecure load, an equipment violation, no seat belt and an open container violation.
He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and for toxicology tests. Officials believe alcohol may have been a factor, the release states.
