PORTAGE | An early morning fire Saturday that injured one man remains under investigation.
Portage Fire Department Division Chief Chad Bogue said Monday that the Indiana State Fire Marshal's office investigated the scene and has so far ruled the cause of the fire is undetermined.
The fire broke out about 5:30 a.m. Saturday in a third floor apartment in the 3300 block of East Bend in the Breckenridge Apartment complex off Lute Road.
Bogue said the occupant of the apartment was found in the hallway. He received some burns and appeared to have suffered some spoke inhalation. He apparently was in the bedroom of the apartment when he was awakened, likely by smoke detectors.
He was transported to a local hospital and then to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill.
His name and condition are unavailable.
Bogue said the fire, which appeared to have originated in the living room of the apartment, destroyed the apartment. The apartment below received some water damage.
The victim was found after the fire was extinguished and firefighters performed a search of the apartment.
