Police: Man shot sawed-off shotgun in Portage backyard
PORTAGE | Charles Hageman, 22, was charged with maintaining a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a sawed-off shotgun and criminal recklessness after he was arrested at his home Saturday night.
Police responded after a neighbor reported hearing gunfire in the area. They found a piece of cardboard with signs of having been shot at in the backyard of Hageman's home.
Initially Hageman and another man denied anything to do with the gunfire, but police spotted the shotgun on the kitchen table.
Hageman continued to deny involvement. While in the home, police spotted a couple of smoking devices. Hageman allegedly told police he had smoked "fake weed" in the pipes.
Pickup truck with plow stolen from facility in Chesterton
CHESTERTON | An employee of Sand Creek, Inc., 1488 Hogan Ave., reported to police on Dec. 30 that a 2004 Ford F250 pickup truck with a snowplow had been taken from inside a maintenance facility at the company. The truck and plow were valued at $20,000.
Medical office robbed of $220 over the holiday in Chesterton
CHESTERTON | An employee of a medical office in the 800 block of Michael Drive reported to police on Friday that someone had stolen cash from the office while it was closed for the New Year's holiday.
Reported missing was $220 from a drawer in the reception area.
