Man reports mobile home was burglarized; computer taken
PORTAGE | A Portage man reported someone broke into his mobile home at Jellystone Park, 5500 Old Porter Road, on Sunday afternoon, taking several items.
The man said he left the locked residence for about two hours and when he returned he saw that the sliding glass door had been left open. Items missing included a bow, a laptop computer, a cellphone and an Xbox 360, all valued at $1,400.
Car broken into while Portage woman bowls in Chesterton
CHESTERTON | A Portage resident reported to Chesterton Police on Sunday afternoon that someone broke into her car while it was parked at Westchester Lanes, 124 N. Eighth St. Saturday night.
The woman told police she and a friend went into the bowling alley for about two hours. They even came outside on occasion to get fresh air.
When they left, they noticed their cellphones missing from the locked car and then spotted a trim piece had been knocked off a rear window, allowing someone to reach the door lock with a coat hanger or tool. In addition to the cellphones, missing was a key fob and several keys. Items were valued at $905.
Electronics reportedly stolen from two homes on Monday
A resident of a home in the 800 North block of County Road 450 West in Portage Township reported Monday a TV, Xbox 360 and Xbox games were taken from the home. It appears someone force entry into the home through a garage door, authorities said.
Porter County Sheriff's Department officers are also investigating a burglary reported Monday at a home in the 4300 block of Ostedt Drive in Center Township. The homeowner said several TVs, two laptop computers, an iPad, Nintendo game system and Xbox game system were taken. Police said entrance was apparently made through a patio door.
