Purse, cash stolen from car at Taco Bell in Chesterton
CHESTERTON | A Porter woman told Chesterton police Friday afternoon that she had stopped at Taco Bell, 702 Plaza Drive, for just a minute or so when someone stole her purse from her unlocked vehicle.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Missing was a purse, wallet, various identification and financial cards and $300 in cash.
Chesterton resident reports handgun stolen in last month
CHESTERTON | A resident of the 400 block of South 17th Street reported to police Sunday morning that a handgun she kept in her dresser drawer. She told police the last time she saw the gun was about a month ago.
Missing was a Taurus .357 Magnum handgun which was fully loaded. It was valued at $400.
Police: Burns Harbor woman faces prescription fraud charge
PORTAGE TOWNSHIP | A Burns Harbor woman was arrested Sunday after police said she tried to illegally fill a prescription at Fagen Pharmacy, 390 W. U.S. 6.
Theresa Cattani, 35, was charged with prescription fraud. She was also held on a warrant from LaPorte County.
Police said employees from Fagen Pharmacy became suspicious when a prescription was called in for Cattani for painkillers and anxiety medication. The caller identified herself as a Michigan City doctor. Pharmacy employees called the doctor who said she knew the woman, but didn't call in the prescription.
As police investigated, Cattani called wanting to pick up the medication. At the direction of police, the pharmacy told her to pick up the medicine with instructions to call police when she arrived. Police said Cattani arrived at the store, and an officer waiting nearby arrived and arrested her.
