CHESTERTON | Police are investigating a burglary in which 13 guns and more than 2,500 rounds of ammunition were taken from a Chesterton store last week.
A woman on her early morning walk June 12 noticed the door to Disappear Gear, 1050 Broadway, Suite 2, had been damaged and called police.
Police said the interior door to the business had been kicked in. Another door leading to a small storage area had been forced open inside the office area.
When the owner arrived, he told police he had been storing multiple weapons of differing types and calibers and a "significant" amount of various types of rifle and handgun ammunition.
The owner identified eight pistols and five rifles missing, valued at more than $12,000. Also missing was 750 rounds of handgun ammunition and 1,900 rounds of rifle ammunition. Also taken was a ghillie suit, a type of camouflage clothing, valued at $200.
The damage to the door was estimated at $900.
The owner told police he left the store at 6 p.m. on June 11.
