CHESTERTON | Westchester Public Library has added 10 Nook Simple Touch eReaders with GlowLights to the Nook pilot program. The 10 Simple Touch eReaders already in the program will continue circulating. Checkout of eReaders is limited to Westchester Township adult patrons whose library cards are in good standing. One Nook at a time may be checked out per card at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave. Each new Nook eReader will be preloaded with 20 to 25 titles and will be updated every month. Four of the GlowLight Nooks will contain best-sellers, two will have mysteries, and there are one each of romance, horror and science fiction, action and adventure, and general new nonfiction. The loan period for the new Nooks is two weeks, just as it is for the regular Simple Touch Nooks. There are no renewals, and no hold requests permitted. The daily overdue fine is $1, with a maximum fine of $5. A $160 charge will be assessed if the GlowLight eReader is lost or damaged. call (219) 926-7696.
Toys and gifts exhibit
CHESTERTON | From December to February, the Westchester Township History Museum will have an exhibit highlighting the toys and gifts of the 1950s and 1960s. The museum needs help in creating the exhibit. Residents who would like to help by displaying their toys or trinkets from that era are invited to contact the museum. Items may be loaned or, upon approval by the curator, donated to the museum collection. Call the museum at (219) 983-9715 for more information.
New book club
CHESTERTON | Children in kindergarten and first grade are invited to register for a new book club at Westchester Public Library. Five Weeks with Martha Speaks will take place in the Children’s Department at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave. The club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Fridays, including Nov. 16 and 30, and Dec. 7 and 14; or at 11 a.m. Saturdays, including Nov. 3 and 17 and Dec. 1, 8 and 15.
Sign up for either Friday evenings or Saturday mornings and come ready to talk about books, learn some new words, do fun activities, find out about dogs and more. Everyone who attends all five sessions will win a prize. There will be a party at the end of the five weeks. Call (219) 926-7696.
Kids knitting class
CHESTERTON | Children ages 7 to 12 are invited to register at Westchester Public Library’s knitting class for children. Kids Knitting Class will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 21 and 28. Registration required. Children are asked to bring size 7 bamboo knitting needles and a skein of wool yarn. Polka Dot Parties
CHESTERTON | Polka Dot Parties with Carol will continue for adults with sessions on Nov. 28 at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave., in the Bertha Wood meeting room. Registration for each program is required. Materials are provided by the library. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 28, attendees will create holiday cards using rubber stamps, die-cuts, embossing, paper-folding and more. Carol Walsh will lead the crafting sessions. Carol’s passion for crafting started years ago and has expanded to include cards and scrapbooking. She is excited about sharing her love for crafting with library patrons.
