'Downton Abbey ' chat

CHESTERTON | Chat about the PBS series Downton Abbey at 2 p.m. March 2 at Westchester Township History Museum, 700 W. Preschool series

PORTER | Westchester Public Library’s preschool movie series will continue at 10 a.m. today at Hageman Library, 100 Francis St., with 2 episodes from Celebrate with Clifford at 10 a.m. Friday. All library films are free of charge and open to the public. Join the fun with Clifford and his pals as they celebrate Clifford’s birthday in The Best Gift and Screaming for Ice Cream. I Can Do That! Art

I Can Do That! Art will continue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday in March at Westchester Public Library. All ages are welcome, but parents are asked to accompany little ones. Tax forms

CHESTERTON | IT-40 booklets (forms included) and basic federal forms (1040, 1040EZ, etc.) are currently available at Westchester Public Library free of charge. The booklets are available in the Serials/Automation room on the second floor of Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave. Call (219) 926-7696, ext. 25.

Polka Dot parties

CHESTERTON | Polka Dot Parties with Carol will continue at Westchester Public Library on three days in March. Adults are invited to be creative at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave., in the Bertha Wood meeting room. Registration for each program is required. Materials are provided by the library.

Polka Dot Party attendees will learn a variety of stamping and paper crafting techniques to incorporate into original St. Patrick’s Day or Easter cards from 9 a.m. to noon Monday.

Pop Can Art is scheduled for two days: 9 a.m. to noon March 18 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 27. Call (219) 926-7696.

Budgeting 101

CHESTERTON | Westchester Public Library’s budgeting series for adults will continue with Budgeting 101 and Debt Savvy One-on-One Personal Budget sessions in March. The programs will both take place at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave., in the Bertha Wood meeting room. Registration for both programs is necessary.

Budgeting 101 will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday. The session will include ideas on where to start with a financial plan, steps of effective financial planning, and good financial habits to develop.

Interested adults are invited to register for Debt Savvy: One-on One Personal Budget from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 14 or March 16. Individual sessions will be for one hour each, by appointment only; registrants may sign up for a time slot at the Reference desk at Thomas Library. Call (219) 926-7696.

Bits and Bytes

CHESTERTON | Bits and Bytes will continue on March 12 at Westchester Public Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave., with Computer Basics 2. The session will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The class is free, but registration is required as computer stations are limited. The program will take place in the Bertha Wood meeting room on the second floor of the library. Registrants need to be comfortable using the mouse. Registration will begin on Tuesday. Computer Basics 2 will continue with basics and will look further into understanding applications, storage and the control panel. Pokemon League

There is still room in Westchester Public Library’s Pokémon League for children in first grade and above. Pokémon League is held 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays in the Children’s Department at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Ave., through May 29. Registration is necessary. Decks are made up of three types of cards: Character, Energy and Special. All three types of cards are needed to build a deck and to battle. Attendees will learn to make decks of 60 cards as they meet new friends. There is no need to bring anything, unless attendees want to bring a starter pack of cards. Beth Rutherford, mother of two sons who learned to battle and trade with their cards at a Pokémon League at the Plymouth Library, will lead the league. Call (219) 926-7696.

Two exhibits

CHESTERTON |  The Westchester Township History Museum will open two exhibits on March 10, Police Departments of Westchester Township and Death in Duneland. The exhibits will run through April 28. Opening reception for both exhibits will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. March 10. Cop-inspired refreshments will be served at the opening. The museum is housed in the historic Brown Mansion at 700 W. Porter Ave.

Police Departments of Westchester Township will include photographs of three generations of Bush family men who served Chesterton as town marshal, deputy marshal and police commissioner. Other photos reflect the different roles local police officers have, from patrolling to keep us safe to educating the public about keeping themselves safe. Westchester Township has a rich history of public servants intent on the safety of the area. Come learn about the history and development of the local police departments through artifacts and photographs. Learn about how two railroad deputies came to be arrested for murder in Chesterton in 1933 and what part a 1933 plane crash has to do with local crime. Call (219) 983-9715.
