CHESTERTON | Chesterton’s European Market and the Westchester Public Library will partner to host the Woodland Wee Folk Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Thomas Centennial Park.
The festival will be a capstone celebration of the library’s Into the Woods summer reading program, which ends Saturday.
“Children and their families will be able to see Thomas Centennial Park come alive with themes from the summer reading program,” said Merribeth Paunicka, children’s librarian at Westchester Public Library. “We’re going to host a crafting tent, where children will be able to create art with items from nature, as well as a bounce house and fairy makeover booth. The Girls Scouts are hosting a fairy cafe, while the Boy Scouts are putting on a gnome obstacle course.”
Artist Rita Jackson will be giving fairy sculpture demonstrations during the festival, while Chesterton Feed and Garden Center will be selling fairy garden supplies. Paunicka is coordinating a fairy home and garden tour.
“We would love for members of the Duneland community to bring their fairy homes or gardens to our festival, so that the children can truly feel like they’re exploring a fairy woodland,” Paunicka said. “Visitors can bring their fairy homes or gardens to the event prior to 10 a.m., and we’ll include them in the fairy home and garden tour."
