Swim, gymnastics

Sign up to learn new skills, meet new friends and have fun this winter. Progressive swim lessons for all ages. Progress gymnastics lessons begin at age 3. See website for schedules.

Preschool sign-up

Registration for 2014-15 Preschool Academy has begun. Be sure to hold your spot, as openings are limited. Call for classes and times.

Fundamentals of competitive swimming

Children will learn the skills for swimming competitively without the pressure of actually competing on a team from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 2-5. By the end of this four-day course, children will have gained an idea of what all is required should they go on to compete. Participants will learn open and flip turns, balance, rhythm, dives, proper breathing, and stroke technique through drills, games and instruction. Register by May 23.

School-age day camp

Y Day Camp, like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. School-age kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities. Y counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every day camper. Includes field trips, sports, swimming, crafts, healthy cooking and more. For children entering grades 1-8.

Parents Night Out

Parents can use the Parents Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. every Friday. Trained YMCA staff have fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. The cost for members is $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. The nonmember rate is $20 for the first child and $10 for each additional child.

Skills camp

T-ball coach pitch preseason skills camp registration has begun for ages 3 to 7. Preseason skills camp runs for four Saturdays starting on June 7. The cost per player is $25. The T-Ball/Coach Pitch season runs from July 12 to Aug. 23. The cost is $40 per child for members and $80 per child for nonmembers.

Summer camp

Time to register youths in grades one to eight for summer camp, which begins June 9 and is filled with swimming, arts and crafts, new games, nature exploration, sports, songs, field trips and new friendships. Each week is themed, and the cost includes a free camp T-shirt. Registration forms are available online at www.dunelandymca.org, at the YMCA front desk, or at the preschool in Chesterton Middle School at Entrance 8.

Community garden

The Y is providing space for a Community Garden for the summer, There is a definite need to help families in the Duneland community. Did you realize that the Westchester Food Pantry served more than 9,000 units last year? Did you know that the Y provides $150,000 in scholarships each year to help families so they can benefit from programs and child care? A community garden can help feed those who need it most. The Y needs volunteers to help construct raised beds. Monetary, construction materials and planting supplies donations are also being sought.

Friday family fun nights

Beginning 6-8 p.m. June 6, Friday Family Fun Night will kick off with an indoor sports tournament. The following Fridays will include events such as a Father's Day Baseball Tournament and Super Dad contest on June 13, Pool Party on June 20, and a bike ride and picnic dinner on June 27. Cost is $15 per family for members and $30 per family for non-members.

Youth leaders wanted

Personal training offer

Ashley Hall, Y Personal Trainer, is offering hour long personal training sessions two times each week. Get a total of eight sessions per month. Choose from individual or buddy training with Ashley. Cost for individual training is $150 per month. If you're training with a buddy, cost is $120 per month per person. Summer camp

Summer camp registration is now open. Camp is structured by a daily schedule which provides focused activities developed from weekly themes. Camp activities will be held outdoors on YMCA grounds in the pavilion. The YMCA facility includes a playground, youth wellness room, swimming pool and gym. Tri-Training
