VALPARAISO | Five inmates are being charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after threatening to riot and resisting guards orders to disperser earlier this month.
The men were upset about having power cut to their pod following a fight and a decision by the jail to relocate one inmate following a fight, according to county police.
The five being charged are Nicholas Ramirez, 26, Justin Antecki, 21, Ryan Kingery, 27, William Thomason, 30, and Mathew Watson, 31.
Police said the inmates went to the upper tier of their cell block April 7 and refused to come down until their demands were met. Some sat on the rails and threatened to jump, and others roped off the stairs with slipcovers, poured water on the stairs to make them slippery and threw wet paper towels at cameras in an attempt to block their view.
Officers responded by removing a television, microwave and cleaning supplies from the pod.
A few of the inmates responded to a police-ordered locked down, but the majority dispersed on their own time.
