Former Valpo high school football coach running for Porter County Council

VALPARAISO | Former Valparaiso High School football coach Mark Hoffman has filed as a Republican candidate for the Porter County Council.

Hoffman, who now works as the school athletic director, said he wants to use his experience as a leader to focus on fiscal discipline and job creation.

Porter County Councilman Jim Polarek, R-4th, joined the race Wednesday for south district county commissioner.

Polarek said there are many challenges facing the county and he can provide the necessary leadership.

Friday is the last day to file to be a candidate in the May primary election.
