VALPARAISO | Kathy Kozuszek, who has served as the Democratic director at the Porter County Voter Registration office since 2007, has announced her intention to run next year for county clerk.
"I will be a Clerk of the Circuit Court who works with elected and appointed officials of all parties and most importantly - I will ensure that I perform my duties for the citizens of our community," Kozuszek said in a prepared statement.
Kozuszek said she has worked at the voter registration office since 2001 and has overseen all the elections during that time.
She vowed to continue to improve voter access to elections by resisting efforts to replace neighborhood voting locations with more distant vote centers. She also plans to continue pressing for cost-saving measures.
Kozuszek said she will also work to educate children on the importance of the voting process.
"As your next elected Clerk, I promise to be responsive to all constituents and members of both parties and the taxpayers like you and me who are proud to call Porter County our home," she said.
