CHESTERTON | As part of the Ford Motor Company's Drive One 4 UR School program, Chesterton High School and members of the community worked together to help much needed funds for the CHS Band. LakeShore Ford and the Ford Motor Company committed to donate $30 for each test drive taken during this one day event. Throughout the day, more than 200 Duneland-area residents showed their support for the cause by coming to the school and test driving the Ford vehicle of their choice. A total of $6,220 is being donated to the CHS Band Booster organization to help the well-known "Trojan Guard" marching band with the purchase of their new uniforms.

Since the program's inception in 2007, the Drive One 4 UR School program has generated over $11 million in donations for high schools nationwide. The money raised during the Drive One 4 UR School program has helped to ensure that music education remains a vital part of the curriculum in our schools, and that extracurricular activities like sports also remain strong, despite budgetary constraints and funding cuts.

"I am more than thrilled that so many people from the local community turned out to support Chesterton High School Band Boosters and I've never been more proud to be a Ford dealer. Participants had the chance to take a fun, casual drive in one of our vehicles, while lending our students and community a much-needed helping hand," said Don Hadley, LakeShore Ford Government/Commercial Sales manager. With all the cutbacks in school budgets, finding creative ways to fund-raise is imperative," said Michael Scheiber, band director at Chesterton High School. "Every year presents new financial challenges for our program and the money we've received from Ford by hosting this event will certainly have a lasting impact on our students and our community. I think it says a lot about Ford's priorities as a company, and as a local business."

This is the second Drive event LakeShore Ford has done with Chesterton High School. To date, the two events have helped raise $9,610 for CHS and the band program. Look for us next fall and help us raise even more money for our school.
