LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department has received $3,785 as part of the Motorola Solutions Foundation’s Public Safety and Security Institute.
The Motorola Solutions Foundation is the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions Inc.
Through the grant, LTVFD will be replacing its current library training material and the grant will continue to help fund Fire Prevention Safety Program. The Fire Prevention Safety Program teaches elementary school children what to do in the event of a fire in their school or home.
In October 2012, the department educated 420 Liberty and Jackson Township elementary school children over a four-day period at its fire station.
Brian Duncan, Liberty Township fire chief, said the Motorola Solution Foundation grant will benefit the department firefighters and Liberty and Jackson Township elementary school children for years to come.
Duncan said that its next fund raising drive will consist of replacing self-contained breathing apparatus tanks. The tanks currently in use by the LTVFD are nearing the end of their 15-year life span. The tanks are worn by firefighters for breathable air in dangerous environments.
LTVFD has been protecting and serving Liberty Township and its surrounding area since 1955. They responded to more than 800 emergency calls in 2012. The department provides fire, rescue and life support protection to 18,500 residents covering 48 square miles of surrounding communities.
