PORTER COUNTY | EMPOWER Porter County will hold a program to help local employers deal with the issue of drug use in the workplace.
EMPOWER Porter County, the county's initiative to reduce substance abuse, will host the Drug-Free Workplace Symposium along with the Valpo Chamber, the Duneland Chamber and the Portage Chamber as a service to help provide information and to allow for candid exchange of ideas to reduce the liability of employers, ensure the safety of employees, and increase the productivity and profitability of the business.
Participants will learn about labor and employment law, liability and workers comp, drug testing options, pitfalls to avoid and the benefits of having a program in place.
Presenters will include Tina Bengs, of Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak and Stewart; Ross MacLennan, of MacLennan and Bain Insurance; Roberta Tuft, of Porter Regional Hospital; and Sandy Carlson, of Porter-Starke Services.
The symposium will be held Oct. 30 at Porter Region Hospital. The morning will start with breakfast at 7 a.m. The symposium will run from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. There is a $5 cost for the breakfast buffet.
