LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | Firefighters from several area departments were called Thursday morning to a residential fire at 245 Papillon Drive.
Tom Shapen, Liberty Township Fire Department assistant chief, said when the first units arrived, light smoke was showing from the back of the two-story brick home. Fire was found in the basement ceiling and second floor and was quickly put out.
Shapen said the residents were home and called the Fire Department shortly before 8 a.m.
There were no injuries. The home sustained smoke and water damage.
Shapen said they called in the Porter County Fire Investigation Strike Team to help determine the cause of the fire.
The home is in a subdivision with no hydrants. Consequently, area departments provide water to extinguish the fire when a tanker plan was activated.
In addition to Liberty Township, fire departments from South Haven, Union Township, Portage, Burns Harbor, Chesterton, Washington Township and Valparaiso were at the scene.
