LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | A 67-year-old man was seriously injured Thursday morning after he crashed his pickup truck and was ejected across the northbound lanes of Ind. 49.
Porter County police Sgt. Larry LaFlower said the driver, who has a Wheeler address, was southbound on Ind. 49 in the area of County Road 600 North about 10:40 a.m. when he apparently lost control of his truck.
LaFlower said the truck went into the median and rolled, ejecting the driver across the northbound lanes.
The driver came to rest along the shoulder of the northbound lanes. He was not hit by northbound traffic.
He suffered incapacitating injuries to his head and upper body, LaFlower said. He was taken by ambulance to Porter Regional Hospital.
Traffic was restricted in the area for about one hour.
LaFlower said Thursday morning’s light snowfall and winds caused icy conditions and many slide-offs along Ind. 49.
