LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | Church employees returning from a Tuesday morning service discovered someone took offering money and personal cash from the church office.
Porter County police were called about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 106 E. County Road 1100 North, where the church secretary said $20 collected from Monday night's service was missing from the church office.
She told police no one should have been in the office between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. during the service, but that the office was not locked.
She realized the $20 was missing. She then realized almost $50 was missing from her purse, which was also in the church office.
The pastor at the church, who had left his wallet in his office during the service, returned to his office to discover about $70 missing.
His office, which is connected to the church office, was also left unlocked.
Police said there is no clear suspect in the thefts.
