LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | Police said a Washington Township man launched into a "political tirade" Thursday after being found with marijuana during a traffic stop.
Edmond Andrews Jr., 20, was arrested on marijuana possession and drug paraphernalia charges during the stop about 7:30 p.m. Thursday on northbound Ind. 49 near the entrance to the Indiana Toll Road, police said.
A Porter County sheriff's officer stopped Andrews for driving suspiciously, police said. Andrews acted strangely, and a police dog later indicated drugs might be in the car, police said.
When police began searching the car, Andrews told them to stop because they didn't have a warrant. After advising Andrews they are not legally required to have a search warrant, officers found a bag of marijuana in a satchel on the passenger seat along with some rolling papers, police said.
As police took him to the Porter County Jail, Andrews called an officer a "pig" and made a series of less-than-flattering comments, police said.
Andrews then turned his attention to his car, warning that the towing company "better not scratch my car," police said.
"I'm sure your (expletive) mutt did," Andrews allegedly said.
Andrews then went on a "political tirade" about the legalization of marijuana and said he was doing his part to stand up for the cause, police said.
