LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | A 4-year-old girl was airlifted to a Chicago hospital after being injured in an accident involving a drunken driver, according to authorities.
The wreck was reported about 10 p.m. Monday at 77 E. County Road 950 North.
Authorities said a woman had just picked up her daughter and was backing out of the driveway and was struck by a car driven by Scott Adams, 21, of Valparaiso.
Adams told investigators the car had no lights on, but a witness said the woman's lights were on.
Authorities suspected Adams had been drinking, and he failed field sobriety tests. Investigators said he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.128 percent.
According to authorities, the girl was taken to Porter Regional Hospital but was flown to a Chicago children's hospital because her lungs were filling with fluid.
Adams faces four counts of operating while intoxicated.
