VALPARAISO — The Lightning Bug Festival will be from noon to dusk July 2 at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Headlining this years’ Lightning Bug is The Del McCoury Band, Grammy winner. Also on the bill are jamgrass pioneers Leftover Salmon, a fixture on the national festival scene known for their incredible live performances, and Shemekia Copeland, blues firebrand and 2016 Contemporary Blues Female Artist Award winner.

“I love live music and I’m a parent," said festival organizer Jim Chaddock, “Everything about Lightning Bug is designed to be fun for the entire family. At this party, the kids get to come along.”

Returning this year are Grammy-nominated bluegrass band Special Consensus and Chester Brown. The festival features craft beer, wine, a kid’s program area and the food truck village serving fresh, local fare. Before the festival is the inaugural Shiny Hiney 5K on the trails of Sunset Hill.

Tickets are on sale now at Tickets are $40 online and $45 at the gate. Kids under 12 are free with an adult. Sunset Hill Farm County Park is at 775 Meridian Road.

All proceeds from the festival will go to improve quality of life for kids and families in Northwest Indiana through the good works of Dunes Learning Center and the Duneland Family YMCA. Visit
