The Town of Ogden Dunes is joining the Shared Ethics Advisory Commission.
Commission President Cal Bellamy stated in a prepared news release that the Ogden Dunes Town Council voted last week to take part in training to help elected officials and their employees avoid ethical conflicts.
The commission formed in 2005, and is asking all elected officials in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties to support training for their staffs, approve an ethics policy and advocate for whistleblower protection for employees who report ethics violations.
"With only two employees, Odgen Dunes is our smallest member. Whether there are two or 200 employees, ethical decision-making by public employees is an important issue for town residents. All of us on the Shared Ethics Advisory Commission applaud Odgen Dunes' commitment to this aspect of quality of life for their community," Bellamy said.
Earlier this month, the Town of Chesterton became the first Porter County community to join. Other members include the County of LaPorte and these Lake County communities: Crown Point, Dyer, East Chicago, Gary, Highland, Lowell, Munster, Schererville and Whiting.
