PORTER | Arlene Foster is enriching her families’ history one picture at a time.
For the last 15 to 16 years, the former Porter resident has been collecting old photos from various relatives.
“I pass the scanned images on to every family member interested along with copies of the family tree. My son wrote a program for me in which we can add photos, news items, documents, etc. for each member. At this point, we have 843 people listed in the tree and more with each marriage or birth. There are 1,144 photos in file with more I haven’t taken time to enter yet,” she said.
Foster, who first moved away in 1964, returned in 1991 and then settled in Monticello in 2004, loves how the pictures bring the past to life.
“I think they make family trees more interesting than a list of names,” she said. “I usually try to update before each of our reunions – one for my dad’s side and one for my mom’s side.”
