Porter County animal shelter board member resigns
VALPARAISO | Veterinarian Jerry Rodenbarger resigned Monday after less than three months of service on the newly formed animal shelter advisory board.
The move comes just a couple of weeks after shelter Director Kristina Montgomery resigned after also serving less than 90 days.
It was revealed last week that there was a third report of money stolen from the shelter, in addition to a recent second parvovirus outbreak that forced the shelter to close its doors until Monday.
Rodenbarger did not return a telephone call Monday for comment on his resignation.
The shelter reopened Monday with employee Jon Thomas serving as interim director, according to County Commission President John Evans, R-North.
Evans told The Times last week he hopes to reveal within the next couple of weeks the identity of a nonprofit group with which he is negotiating to take over the troubled, no-kill animal shelter south of U.S. 30 on Ind. 2.
